Although technically a constituent part of topics covered by general academic tutoring, test preparation necessarily privileges disciplined effort over every other expression of student comprehension. This basic methodology summarizes our approach to the teaching of test-taking strategies. We understand that certain students conversant with test-taking strategies may outperform students supposedly more intelligent but untrained in cracking examinations, but our instruction does not exclusively rely on facile shortcuts. Our primary syllabus equally covers each of the three most important components of successful examination preparation, viz. the elementary knowledge prefatory to familiarity with examination material, the application of approaches designed to facilitate time management, and a program of drills constantly adjusting to reflect the changing strengths and weaknesses of students. During Guru Test Prep classes, elementary school students study for tests like the SSAT, ISEE, ERB, and the Iowa Skills Test, while junior high school students study for tests like the SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, TACHS, and Regents. PSAT, SAT I, SAT II subject tests, AP examinations, and Regents form major topics of our test preparation curricula for high school students. We even work with college students who need to study for examinations like the MCAT, DAT, and PCAT.
