Our Philosophy

At Guru Test Prep, our philosophy reflects not only the pedagogy of individual and group teaching, but also the broader necessity of providing an academic environment conducive to the social and intellectual creativity, growth, and refinement of your child.  As we work with children, Guru Test Prep integrates two broad schools of thought that have emerged in the evolving history of scholarship and good parenting skills: a so-called Eastern school of thought that privileges discipline and systematic ways in approaching society and academics, and a so-called Western school of thought that privileges intellectual and social growth grounded in nurturing and rewarding creativity.  Through this integrated approach, teachers at Guru Test Prep successfully contribute to a dialogue over how children can turn from unfocused learners to internally motivated learners who discover the simple reward of learning concepts taught as relevant to the needs of an increasingly cosmopolitan society.

In Guru Test Prep, we apply this West-East integrative philosophy by combining the basic functions of a tutoring academy—test preparation, application essay guidance, and the like, for every grade level—with a profoundly novel supporting guidance system that constantly reminds your child that he or she will always have helpers fiercely dedicated to student progress.  In our supporting guidance system, we help parents and children sort through labyrinthine and frequently overwhelming literature about topics like (among others) the inveterate debate over which schools offer optimal learning and academic counseling.  Acting as a liaison between parents and the schools of children, Guru Test Prep proactively communicates with school teachers and guidance counselors, monitors student academic progress and student attitudes at school, reviews school homework and projects on a daily basis, facilitates weekly school assessment preparation, analyzes current semester progress in order to help students reflect on expectations for future semesters, and most importantly, gives the personal academic attention that every child deserves but does not often receive.
